Sea excursion on rubber boat from Marzamemi to the Isola delle Correnti
Tales, dives and legends
Join Captain Antonino on this captivating excursion to discover a spectacular natural scenery. Starting from Marzameni, as we head south along the coast of Sicily, we’ll pass the southernmost point of the island, which is even further south than Tunis. We’ll uncover several surprises in this stretch of deep blue sea. You’ll have the opportunity to dive and explore breathtaking seabeds (ready for snorkelling?), and you’ll be treated to refreshments and traditional sweets and drinks by Antonino, who will amaze you with stories, traditions, and legends of mythical places.
The Isola di Capo Passero
As we leave Marzamemi and the pretty Brancati islet, guardian of the village’s small port, we sail southwards towards the Isola di Capo Passero. It’s the perfect place to learn from Antonino about the history of the ancient tonnare, the traditional tuna fishing system used to catch tuna in the Mediterranean. The island still has the old tuna fishery warehouses and seventeenth-century military architecture that overlooks the landscape. Along the coast, you’ll see the beautiful Castello Tafuri built in Art Nouveau style, standing majestically on the rock. This is a must-visit spot for diving into the sea, architecture, and history.
The Isola delle correnti
Full speed ahead, between refreshments and tales, towards the Isola delle Correnti, the highlight of the excursion. It is named after the fact that it is located right where the two seas meet, the Ionian and the Sicilian Channel. Antonino will take us to watch the crossing of sea currents among the waves, which can be perfectly visible at times thanks to the ripples and changing colours. Afterward, we can enjoy a relaxing swim in the quiet bay and dive a little further out to admire, at around 4 meters depth, a shipwreck from the 1950s.
The Grotta dei sospiri and Punta delle Formiche
The Caribbean waters of the Grotta dei Sospiri calm, low, and very blue will win you over. Between rocks and ravines, this stretch of coast is named for the low and jagged rocks that dot the sea like columns of ants. It’s a unique place for the last dive of this unforgettable day.
